Personal Update:
I haven’t blogged much or really done much work on any of my websites this month of October (let alone September). I’ve been pretty busy with other stuff and have not had much desire to look at my computer let alone work on it. I’ve been deep in thought about my career, education, and the future plans of my professional life. It’s been nice having time off work to digest what’s going on in my personal life and where I want to go. I have always wanted to work on a second degree and think I have finally decided on a degree in Psychology if SFU will take me. I had planned more on finishing my MBA before starting this second degree but because of how long it will take me to finish my BTech, I have been pondering doing my Psych degree full-time while working on my BTech part-time here and there. I love to learn and look forward to whenever the opportunity presents itself to be back in school full-time. When that will happen, is anyones guess at this point. Thankfully, I can do most or some of both degrees online or by distance education which gives me the option of working while going to school.
We’re moving at the end of the month so having to sort things out between what’s being moved, garage saled, and storaged. Such a joy! I hate moving but well skilled at it. Here’s hoping the next place we move to (which will be either end of year or in the new year) will be nicer, in a less sketchy neighbourhood, and us not waking up to crackers and white velcro shoes in our backyard. When people ask me where I live, I tend to say, “too close to Main and Hastings”. For those who don’t live in Vancouver or know what the Downtown East Side is like, be thankful. It’s a neighbourhood that has gotten to me making me want to move out of Vancouver or at least out of Strathcona to get away from it. Too much poverty, aggressive beggers, sex workers, and open drug use in this neighbourhood. On a “good day”, by the time I’ve made it to work in the morning, I have been solicited for sex, drugs, and asked for change atleast twice. Living in this neighbourhood has really dragged me down so I’m *really* looking forward to moving out of it. I wish I could justify the cost of one of these nice $1,200-1,600/month rentals downtown. Ouch! Although not much more then what we’re paying to live in the hood!
Web Update:
I’ve just yet again purged more of my domain portfolio and have prebooked 4 .ca domains. I may move my .ca’s back to WebNames because I can’t seem to renew my domains online with DomainPeople. I’ll pay the extra couple of dollars a year to have the ability to renew my domains without having to phone someone and be on the phone forever trying to get my domains renewed.
I’m hoping the purge of my domains and registration of a few new ones will help me redivert my attention into promotion and content creation (which means hopefully, a lot less programming!). I’ve been playing more with WordPress having installed it on a few domains. I’ve been torn between trying to figure out how to get my site to do syndication and farting around with something that already does this. Is it easier to write software from scratch or customize a pre-existing package to customize your needs? I love the “it depends”. I was so annoyed with using Blogger that I gave up and started writing my own blogging script. I can’t remember if I’ve tried WP before but happy with it so far and now contemplating moving this blog to WP which I’m sure will be a hassle.
