Well, I did it. I finally wrote a class in PHP and instantiated it! Been a long time in the running, that is me actually using OOP outside of school or training. It is officially now the year of 2006 and I was first introduced to OOP (via Java) in about 1998. Seems odd for me to say “8 years later…” but it feels good.
I do not know why I keep waiting for opportunities to come to me via employers when the opportunities I have been looking for only seem to come from the opportunities I create for myself at home. It is disappointed that as a software developer you know what the SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) is and how you should be working on projects but I am yet to work for an organization (or even myself at home) using all of the best practices, methodologies, and all the theory that goes into actually creating an application which is something I have been working towards at home the past 2-3 years with my projects.
Slowly but surely my site layouts will become CSS-based, my code will become more semantic and search engine friendly, my data layers will actually be pulled out from my content, and yes, I will eventually have all my thoughts on paper and into either my task management system or project plans.
..the future is geeky…..
