Not sure geographically where you’re perusing my blog from but it went from being 25-30C and green and sunny in Vancouver to raining cold cold cold with threats of snow and falling leaves in a matter of about two weeks. If you’re American, no, we don’t live in igloos and honestly don’t get much snow here - maybe snows once or twice a year and rarely sticks for more then a few hours unless it’s a very very rare snowstorm which is guaranteed to shut down the entire Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

I’m in my hometown of Parksville on Vancouver Island as I write this (oh how I love the Internet) visiting my family and delayed my ferry trip yesterday because the wind and rain was blowing so hard. They said on the radio the wind was at the point of them shutting down the ferries but thankfully cleared up after lunch so I made a run for the 5:45 before the next storm rolled in. I don’t like riding the ferries when I see sky, water, sky, water, sky, water…. After hearing last year about a ferry taking several hours to cross, windows being blown out and what sounded like a horrifying trip across the drink (and no, it wasn’t the sunshine breakfast!), I tend to be more leary of heading to the ferry during a storm. Another storm is supposed to be rolling in and the wind storms on the Island are insane (upwards of 140km/h) on the east coast making me glad we’re not on the west coast where it would be even worse! My little Nissan Micra used to get blown into the other lane on my commute back/forth to college.

We’re now moved out of Vancouver’s downtown eastside although far from settled! My girlfriend may be teaching up at UBC Okanagan in Kelowna, BC come January. Knowing she had a good chance of getting this job, we elected to take her parents up on the offer of staying with them until we know better where we’ll be in the new year. I don’t know at this point whether I’ll stay in Vancouver or go with her. It’s times like these that I wish I was making even just enough revenue off my websites to make my credit card payments every month. I’m still off work and will find out at the end of the November if I’m heading back in early December or a later date. I’m hoping that if Kelowna pans out, I can get transferred up there and if not, I have six weeks to decide what I’ll do in the new year.
