Installing WordPress with Hosted Account

26 August 2008 832 views 3 Comments

Installing WordPress with a hosted account is very quick and easy. The first step was covered with my post on Setting up a MySQL database from CPanel which is required to house the WordPress data.

This video shows you where to get the WordPress installation files and walks you through the installation process:

Quick notes for Installing WordPress with a Hosted Account Video Tutorial:

1. Download WordPress files from wordpress.org
2. Upload WordPress files to web hosting account
3. Rename wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php
4. Update wp-config.php with database information
5. Click though WordPress installation

In the video, I recommend changing the default Admin password to something you will remember. This isn’t a necessary step but always the first step I take to ensure I don’t have to go into the database to get the password out if I can’t remember it.

The renaming and editing of the wp-config.php file can be done prior to uploading if you unzip the files on your computer prior to uploading.

I should have noted in the video that some web hosting companies don’t use “localhost” for the MySQL database host. Please check with your web hosting provider to find out what host name to use if localhost does not work for you.
