Setting up a MySQL database from CPanel

18 August 2008 790 views One Comment

Setting up a MySQL database from CPanel is a fairly easy and straightforward task. Of course, everything is easy once you know how to do it and that’s what I plan on showing you today!

I have created a screencast tutorial on how to setup a MySQL database from CPanel for your viewing pleasure. I may be a bit fast in the tutorial but I wanted to keep the screen cast as short as possible knowing you can watch it more then once and ask questions if you have them.

In an upcoming post, I will show you how to use WordPress.org for a self-hosted blog. In order to install a hosted installation of WordPress, you need to setup a MySQL database to house the data:

*For higher quality, click video to go to YouTube and click “watch in high quality”

Quick notes for Setting up a MySQL Database from CPanel Video Tutorial:

  1. Login to CPanel account
  2. Click on the MySQL Databases icon
  3. Enter database name, Create Database, and then “Go Back”
  4. Enter user name and password, Create User, and then “Go Back”
  5. Select the User, Database, and Permissions, and click Add User to Database

You can use whatever username, database, and password you want. For security reasons, it is a good idea to ensure the username, database and password are not the same and the password is hard to guess.
