Emailed ServInt earlier this week with my list of requirements, asking what they are able to accomodate. The news back from ServInt regarding running Java on a VPS account:
There is generally an issue with using Java (JSP + JVM) on a VPS Account. Unfortunately Java was not designed with a shared environment in mind and it consumes far too many resources to function optimally on an Essential VPS Account. In fact, Java consumes 1 GB of RAM when sitting idle.

Went thru adding <!–more–> to all of my posts. I am currently placing this after the first paragraph unless it is a very short paragraph and if so, then after the second paragraph. I am not sure of when and where this is most appropriate to use but will look more into it. Moving forward, I may be more diligent in doing this while writing my posts paying careful attention to how I structure my posts and most specifically, the “lead in” to the article.

Okay, it technically wasn’t a cruise ship - it was BC Ferries and it’s not really a tropical island, it’s Vancouver Island. I am “home” (Parksville) for the weekend to visit family while celebrating a few birthdays and hopefully unplug for a couple of days.
Still mulling over what else I might want installed onto the VPS but think I’m ready to email them about setting up my account. I will hopefully start the move early this week to ensure it’s okay to cancel the Dathorn account. I’m not worried if I pay an extra month of hosting but there is the worry of having the need something to fall back on.
